Add a light glow to a portrait using photo veils - Photo Recipe

Cloudy days are grateful for taking portraits - the light is consistent and you do not need to worry about shadows. At the same time, the overall look may be a bit flat and somewhat monotone.
When you compare my 'before' and 'after'-photos, you see the natural light effect, I created with the Rosy Glow photo veil from Love that Shot. Using two additional veils, I added just a bit more warmth and a slight vignette effect to the background.

Photo Recipe:

1. I added the Whisper veil from Simplicity Collection, using blending mode soft light with 80 % opacity. I removed the veil effect with a soft brush from the face and neck.
2. My second veil, Rosy Glow, is from the Illumination Collection : I used blending mode soft light with 31 % opacity.
3. The last veil, Medium, is also from Illumination Collection. It adds a subtle vignette to the top of the photo (I brushed the effect from the face and from the snow below.)  I used blending mode soft light with 100 % opacity.

Our oldest son was willing to pose on a cloudy day - just before his yearly dentist check. We took a little walk by the lake close by, enjoying the new fallen snow.

You'll find more beautiful veils that add light effects to your photos from Love That Shot's Photo Veil Collections.

... Until next time,

Nina

PS. Good news from the dentist - no caries at all ... So, a bright smile in the next portrait!

  3. Wow, what a difference! I took some photos of our snow early this morning and they turned out so dark, but I didn't know what to do to lighten them :) Thanks for your tips, Nina. Hugs to you!

  8. I like his glasses! And the nice subtle brightening, too.
And it makes me smile that you took time together for a walk before the dentist visit.
Our youngest three are off to the dentist tomorrow morning for cleaning & checks. :)
